As parents of a preschooler who long for the freedom of our youth and traveling to exciting cities, today my partner and I agreed that we would each love to do a solo trip to London. Spending days walking the streets flat, exploring museums and art galleries and browsing through quaint shops.

But you are right, at our age we would likely only manage a morning and then need to retreat, put our feet up and have a nap! Weโ€™re definitely not as energetic as we used to be... but at least the spirit is willing.

Yes!! I love how you said it - that we should all get to have that experience of ourselves, the strength & hustle & flexibility, that a big city requires, even if only for a vacation or a long weekend or whatnot:) Beautiful, Abby! xo

I'm so late to this, but I love it. And I agree. I grew up in the suburbs, and moved to NYC on a work contract for about 9 months. I came into myself during that time. I learned to speak up and use my body as the powerhouse that it is to get what I needed. (That sounds bad when I write it, but you get it.)

Now we live in Downtown Seattle as a family of five, and I finally feel at home here. I much prefer the city life, and regularly encourage people to experience it, even as a substitute for world travelingโ€”if that's out of budget or too overwhelming, etc.

Love this so much. I have a one year old and weโ€™re going to Scotland this summer. I didnโ€™t get to travel overseas as a kid. I want her to see we can push ourselves through big new uncomfortable experiences together. Now and as she continues to grow. Even though she wonโ€™t remember it, I hope itโ€™ll be a story she can hold onto. Thank you for your writing. I feel it in my bones โค๏ธ
