This week we are reading a poem by Ellen Bass. Oh, I love this one. It has what I recently learned is a “trap door” title—you’ll see why—that drops you right into the piece itself. This is such a visceral piece of writing, so full of the body—some version of it, mired by grief—and all it has to shoulder. Read it slowly through a few times, then give yourself some time to write.
