Are you on Facebook? I am in a couple local to me expat groups on FB and its been amazing. I've met quite a few people for coworking or coffee. Its not the same as deep friendship, but I've made a few friends through there over the years. Plus, people regularly post about being new to town with kids of certain ages and interests in thr parenting group so the kids can have new playmates.
I have started buying my cookbooks on the kindle so I can read them like books. They are soooo good. Sometimes I am up at 4 am reading recipes and it’s so calming.
