Try the King Arthur Flour bagel recipe (it was their recipe of the year a few years back). Very simple & straight-forward with delicious results! I started 2024 by finally embarking on reading The Covenant of Water. Thankfully this has been a slow week in my schedule because this book has pulled me in and I’m struggling to put it down! I highly recommend carving out some time with this amazing story, don’t be scared by its length (700+ pages). It’s truly a work of literary art that I’m loving more than I expected.
I want to read that! I have it and am worried about how...daunting it seems? But will I just be totally transported?? The bagel were a Montreal recipe from a class we took there, which was amazing! I think a few more tries might help?! xx
The Covenant of Water appears daunting, with 700+ pages, but it is amazing and flows so quickly. Just make sure you have time set aside to allow yourself to be fully absorbed into this book! And I wish I had some Montreal bagels to eat while reading - YUM!!!
Yesss to all of this! Like you, a few days ago, I wrote down a few things I wanted to focus on (rather than specific resolutions) and the ones that immediately came to mind: more calls to my mom, more walks with my friend; less sugar, less stuff;)
I did also give myself the fun goal of baking one recipe each month for the whole year from the cookbook you turned me on to, Snacking Cakes! I did a Year of Pie not long ago & it was so much fun!!
I'm almost finished with my first read of the year, Such A Quiet Place by Megan Miranda, and it's great! I can't wait to know how the mystery unfolds.
Happy New Year, Abby! I'm so grateful for you xoxo
Oh I love the baking goal! I want to do that. A year of pie sounds like a good challenge for me bc I bake so many other things regularly that once a month wouldn't be special...Thank you for the inspo! xx
Yes to Year of No!! I once said I want a t-shirt that reads “No Is My Spirit Animal” and imho, not enough people said I was brilliant. 🖤 🩷
I love that! Make it!!

You're welcome! ❤️ And it had to be pies / recipes I'd never made before;)
Not that I didn’t deeply appreciate the content of your message, because I did. And also I don’t like bagel jerky either, so try this: https://alexandracooks.com/2018/08/16/very-good-bagels-easy-ish-too/.
Oh, thank you Alex! I will try it.
