I love your last paragraph - so real and tender and relatable. Thank you for sharing! Also, this inspired me to join Summer School. I need more of this softness in my life :)
I love this Abby! The transience of academic life can be a tough-y. I’ve got a sabbatical coming up next year and I think we will stay here (currently commuting between Scotland and Northern Ireland, so I can be in Scotland). But the next sabbatical I want my son to have that broader exposure to the world.
Now that we are tied to school schedules (7 weeks starting tomorrow in Scotland), I’m thinking about how we can be creative with home exchanges to get that time away. We are leaving for 2 weeks in Lisbon on Saturday, and he’ll be going to a local camp (English speaking), and I’m hoping we can do the same in Amsterdam next summer.

oh yay!!!!!
I ask myself “is it perimenopause or plain old anxiety” so often, I’ve lost count. 🙃
So many times! I’m 38 and I dunno...
You’ve captured perfectly the joy and the tragedy of sabbatical life. See you on the other side! Strength 💪🏽 and love ❤️
"Enjoy ourselves with broken hearts" - so beautiful and so true
